I redid the experimental test results of the Oersted Effect (compass
needle deflection by a current) on a Wimshurst
and Van de Graaff. Earlier I reported a similar Oersted Effect
compared to a DC battery current. Where the
compass needle deflects 90 degrees due to the current.
Earlier I reported that the Wimshurst deflects the compass needle also
at 90 degrees when held to the side of
the electrodes. And the polarity is obeyed on the other side. However,
there are several problems in that
the current in the Wimshurst and Van de Graaff are not large enough to
do the Oersted test on the wires
as it is easy to do on the wires of the battery. Also there is the
problem that the compass needle becomes
part of the circuit or magnetic field of the electrodes in the
Wimshurst and Van de Graaff and thus the needle
rotating not 90 degrees but a full 180 degrees.
I need more precise machines than the two I have.
But the best precision machines would be superconductors themselves. To
witness the Oersted Effect
upon both type I and type II superconductors. One uncontrollable
trouble with these generators is the
arc or spark in the gap in the electrodes in the capacitor current.
Also a Theoretical Problem I have not yet tackled head on, concerns
the question of whether the Capacitor
Current exists only at the gap of the electrodes and not the other
part of the circuit of the generators or whether
the Capacitor Current exists throughout the circuit. I suppose this
question could be asked of a superconductor.
In that the current fed into the superconductor is a normal DC current
but once the current enters the
superconductor becomes a different current as the electrons move in
the superconductor material. So that
if one were to measure a Oersted Effect on the fed DC current would be
a different measured result
from that of the compass needle applied directly to the
superconduction material. So we have a situation
where there exists two different types of current flowing in one
circuit.
