Many novices will be confused of this reporting, for they will not
understand the difference between the Meissner
Effect and that of the Lenz's Law Effect. Lenz's law is merely
conservation of energy.
Meissner Effect on the other hand is pure diamagnetism. It is easy to
confuse conservation of energy with that
of diamagnetism.
Experiment Setup:
Have a Wimshurst Generator and have a corkscrew shaped coil or iron
shaving. I obtained mine from a
shop machine lathe that drills holes in iron metal. There are alot of
iron shavings as the drill press
drills holes in iron. I have a specimen that is 3 centimeters long and
I fastened a piece of dental floss
to one end of the iron shaving shaped as a corkscrew. Now I can place
the iron coil near the two
electrodes of the Wimshurst. Now before I operate the Wimshurst I test
the one electrode with the
iron coil which is slightly magnetic. The iron coil is slightly
magnetic. And testing Electrode #1, I
get a attraction of the iron coil and testing Electrode #2, I get a
repelling of the iron coil.
This is Lenz's Law as the principle of the conservation of energy.
Now I operate the Wimshurst Generator and throw a spark across the gap
of the electrodes.
And I carefully lower the iron coil near Electrode #1 and it no longer
attracts the coil but instead
repels the coil. Now I remove the oil from the operation and begin to
lower it down next to the
Electrode #2 which originally repelled the coil and repeats the
repelling.
Summary: when the generator is not in operation and fully discharged
that the iron coil is attracted
at Electrode #1 and is repelled at Electrode #2. When in operation the
Wimshurst Generator repels
the iron coil at both the electrodes. Total repulsion of the iron coil
when a Capacitor Current is running
through. This repulsion is a diamagnetic effect and not a conservation
of energy that is Lenz's Law.
When you have a repulsion at an electrode that was previously
attraction for the iron coil is more than
a conservation of energy but rather a change in the magnetic field,
from that of ferromagnetism (or perhaps
paramagnetism) to that of diamagnetism.
The above is easy and simply to duplicate by anyone who has a
Wimshurst Generator and who can
obtain a curled shaped or corkscrew shaped iron shaving from a machine
shop drill press or lathe.
