Yes, you are missing something. ;-) I'll tell you how to do this but you may
wish to simply have a computer professional or knowledgeable friend do this
for you. It won't be free if you have a tech do this, but only you can
decide what your time is worth. For the tech, it's a 5-minute process to
get into the machine with NTpasswd. For you...??? You decide.

Download the .iso for the CD image for NTpasswd. This needs to be burned to
CD as an image, not data. You need third-party burning software for this
since XP's built-in burner can't do it. That means Nero, Roxio, or any one
of the numerous free burners like ImgBurn, CDBurner XP Pro, DeepBurner,
etc.

Then set your computer to boot from the CD drive (this option will be in the
BIOS or your machine may have a keypress for a temporary change to the boot
order). Put the NTpasswd CD you made in the drive and boot to it. Follow
the directions, entering the asterisk for the blank password.
