No, you simply need to take ownership fully. I expect you didn't go to the
Advanced part. Do this and make sure you check the box to allow permissions
to be inherited from the parent object. Read through the instructions at
that link again.
I don't know what "Drive Extender" is. If this is part of WHS (which I
haven't installed yet so can't address any issues with it) then check on
the WHS forums:

If "Drive Extender" is a third-party program, check with them to see if
using it could have caused problems with your data.
