You apparently have XP Pro and were using the built-in Administrator account
for your daily work (not recommended). When you create a second user
account with administrative privileges, the built-in Administrator account
is hidden. This is by design.

If you want to continue using the built-in Administrator account for your
own work, simply do Ctrl-Alt-Del at the Welcome Screen. This will give you
the classic logon box where you can type "Administrator" (without the
quotes) for the user and whatever password you had assigned to the account
(or leave it blank if you didn't assign a password).

If you would like the Administrator account to appear on the Welcome Screen,
MVP Doug Knox has a fix:

Enable Administrator account on Welcome Screen -

If you continue to use the built-in Administrator account for your daily
work, I would suggest you create another user account with administrative
privileges - call it "Tech" or the like - for emergencies. You don't ever
have to log into it - it would be better if you don't use it at all - but
it will be there in an emergency if yours and your son's account become
corrupted.
