You and me both.

I was watching something last night, and it suddenly hit me: "science"
has basically become synonymous with eco-mentalism. Used to be, when I
heard there was some kind of science show or presentation by "a
scientist," I could look forward to something intellectually
stimulating, exciting, whatever. Spaceships, robots, bionic legs, stuff
like that. But now there's a good chance it's just going to be some
crappy whingeing about beach erosion, pollution, ozone, polar bears...
That's what "science" IS now.

Another way to put that: science has been cleverly and effortlessly
hijacked.

Same principle: there's a couple of shows about oddball "inventors" on
the science channels, that looked like they might be interesting. Turns
out it's just a couple of hacky-sack-grade scruffy college kids visiting
smelly hipppies around the country who are working on ways to stop the
climate right where it's supposed to be, by recycling.
