Subject: Why corn?

I may be missing something here, but why use corn for ethanol production and
not sugar beet?

Here in the UK sugar cane will not grow, but thousands of acres of sugar
beet is grown (mostly for cattle feed)

Why not use sugar beet for ethanol production?
