Have you read "Around The World in 80 Days"? The same effect happens as
the earth goes around the sun. During one orbital revolution, the earth
really (i.e. relative to the distant universe) rotates about 366.25
times, but the sun rises and sets one less time, so there are 365.25
days in a year. The average length of a day is exactly 24 hours, but
the time the earth takes to make one rotation is slightly less.
