A follow-on:
The reason the women gave for wanting a "women only" gym
is that they felt uncomfortable being looked upon by men
while wearing gym clothes.
This attitude arises from the socially repressive attitude of
Muslims that women are property who may only be looked
upon by an owner (i.e. husband or male relative).
I find it reprehensible that Harvard should be accepting
the furtherance of this repression by allowing a "women only"
gym. Harvard should insist on a more enlightened attitude.
Gym clothes are not, e.g. bikinis. And even if they were, it
would still be OUR CUSTOM. It is up to guests to follow
our customs and not the other way around. By asking for us
to adopt to them, these women are being hypocrites, because
we are surely required to adopt Muslim custom when we visit
Muslim countries.
