The ice breaking off does not have to involve
any melting at all, just the normal outward flow of
ice sheets constantly causes breaking off or calving.

And the longer an area goes without breaking off,
the larger the chunks breaking off.

Since sea level didn't suddenly rise a couple
of feet, there really isn't much news in such a small
reduction of stable ice.
