If someone were serious about building a hybrid off-road vehicle, they
could do some real magic with a series hybrid, where the engine drives
a generator which powers a separate "smart" motor for each wheel. Such
a vehicle could stop partway up a rocky slope and re-start; no need
to "charge the hill".
