That all depends on which Bible you read,
and which preacher's analysis you believe.

The King James clearly says "kill", and lists no exceptions.
Do you also equivocate about adultery, theft and lies?

Exodous 20
13 Thou shalt not kill.
14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.
15 Thou shalt not steal.
16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

Additionally, if you claim Christian faith,
a self-defense exclusion to killing
cannot be grounded using the Bible as a source
without the use of tenuous contextual citations,
and is strongly contraindicated using words
directly attributed to Jesus, as well a Paul

Matthew 5 is illuminative:

9 Blessed are the peacemakers:
for they shall be called the children of God.
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake:
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you,
and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely,
for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad:
for great is your reward in heaven:
for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

Again; from Matthew 5:

21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time,
Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill
shall be in danger of the judgment:
22 But I say unto you,
That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause
shall be in danger of the judgment:
and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca,
shall be in danger of the council:
but whosoever shall say, Thou fool,
shall be in danger of hell fire.
23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar,
and there rememberest that thy brother
hath ought against thee;
24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way;
first be reconciled to thy brother,

Pretty tough to be a Christian,
and still claim it's OK to kill in self-defense,
given these words, directly attributed to Christ.

It not Freedom of Religion;
It's Freedom From Heretical Apostates,
And Their Utterances of Falsehoods As Canon.
