The truth is that the effect is small.

Co2 is responsible for about 3.7' of warming at the earth's surface out of
a temperature difference from absolute zero of 300'.

Currently CO2 levels have risen about 40% and 40% of 3.7'C = 1.5'C of
which .74'C has been observed, due to the delayed heating of the ocean.

This is a first order approximation of course, to get the second order you
have to add all of the feedbacks through numerical modeling.
